Cette chanson a été composée pour le livre audio du Film E.T par Steven Spielberg, Michael Jackson a accepté de lire l'histoire de E.T aux enfants, son ami Steven Spielberg lui ayant proposé de le faire. L'ouverture et la fermeture du livre audio se font grâce à cette chanson : Someone In The Dark, enregistrée pendant l'enregistrement de l'album Thriller. Cette chanson est disponible sur un Disque devenu extrêmement rare, en effet quelques jours après la commercialisation de ce livre, il a été retiré de la commercialisation suite à la demande de la maison de disque CBS, parce que ce disque devait sortir sans faire concurrence à l'album Thriller, la maison de disque commercialisant ce disque n'étant pas CBS.

En 2001, les fans de Michael Jackson purent enfin trouver cette chanson sur support CD lors de la réédition de l'album Thriller et également en 2004 sur le coffret "The Ultimate Collection"
